This international women's day- let's pave the way to equality for generations to come.
Women’s History Month isn’t just about Beyoncé gifs and Ruth Bader Ginsburg quotes. It’s a chance for us to have meaningful conversations about gender to make our workplace more inclusive and welcoming for everyone.
But where do you start?
Last week I had the opportunity to be part of a screening event at NASA in Huntsville, Alabama.
This was the second time I’ve attended a screening hosted by NASA. There is a reason they’re the number one government agency to work for- not only do they know a thing or two about dreaming, but most importantly, they’re willing to roll up their sleeves and do the work.
In addition to having a beautiful screening of the film and hosting a Q&A with me, after the screening I led a conversation about inclusivity and diversity.
For an hour, their senior leadership took the time to connect, listen, invest in, and set goals to make NASA a more inviting place to work for women, people of color, and the LGBTQ community. It was a transformative conversation that centered around the stories in Dream, Girl.
Here’s the thing- sometimes it’s awkward, embarrassing, or painful to talk about the discrimination you’ve faced. And it’s always uncomfortable to say it’s happened at a place you love to work at.

For the last five years I’ve been immersed in the feminist community, traveling worldwide with the film, and publishing over 650 articles on my feminist storytelling blog, Feminist Wednesday. My passion, inspiration, and joy come from having these uncomfortable conversations about gender. Why? Because I was sexually harassed at the last job I worked for before Dream, Girl. I never want anyone to feel like the work they do doesn’t matter because of who they are.
Together we can make this month not only an inspiring and uplifting celebration of women, but we can truly invest the time and engage in conversations to ensure we are clearing the path to equality for generations to come.
